Twitter's gone and taken the market with an adhoc API that made writing good-enough clients easy.<br /><br />That's where the "doesn't have much concern with achieving short-run simplicity or making life easier for your clients" part is important. A lot of the change happening out there right now is short-run, or not run at all.<br /><br />I'm a firm believer in the long-run benefits of REST, and I hope that a lot of the expedient silo-site APIs of today get pushed aside by more general and web-wide REST eventually.
